Rogationtide Walk
On 4 June, Rev Julian Sanders and the congregation of the United Reformed Church at Great Bavington kindly welcomed walkers from their neighbouring parishes to their annual Tea on the Lawn.
At 3.30pm a small group, bolstered by members of the band from St George’s URC, Morpeth, set out from Kirkwhelpington to mark Rogationtide in glorious sunshine and just enough of a breeze to keep us comfortably refreshed. There is a tradition, since medieval times, of walking the parish boundaries at Rogationtide which is the time of year to ask God's blessing on communities, agriculture and industries. We followed the route of St Oswald’s Way, encouraged by tales of life on the farms we passed from Mary Brodie and Eileen Robson and the realisation that while we walked, Ron Forster was actually running from Great Bavington to Kirkwhelpington and back again! He had previously been the Minister at Great Bavington and had returned with his wife who is the leader of the Band. They played a lovely selection of hymns and other music before we all enjoyed a delicious picnic.
A huge thank you to all those involved in organising the event and for contributing food, with special thanks to Rev. Julian Sanders, Louise Sanders and the team at Great Bavington URC.

The Bake Off returned last Sunday after an absence of 4 years. This time our 3 Kirks and Cambo parishes were joined by the United Reform Church at Great Bavington. Hilary and Bill judged the entries, and the winners were Audrey with her sponge in a loaf tin, Sadie with her tray bake, and Frances was the overall winner with her plate of biscuits (pictured winning the wooden spoon). Thank you to all who contributed baking and cheered on the winners as they collected their prize of Mini Eggs! Thank you to Jane for organising the event.
The baking was donated to Cambo Village Hall for their fundraising event that evening, which was raising money to send a fire engine to Ukraine.

On 22 May, Rogation Sunday, a small group enjoyed a lovely walk from the Gibbet Road to Kirkwhelpington.
The sun shone with a gentle breeze providing perfect conditions to appreciate our beautiful surroundings and the hard work of the local farmers in caring for it. Old photos of the station at Knowesgate were a reminder of times past as we were joined by some younger parishioners for the final stretch down to Kirkwhelpington. The walkers were soon revived by a delicious picnic in the churchyard and the excellent new facilities at the church.

We would like to thank those who helped to create the Daffodil Extravaganza at Cambo Church during 17th and 24th April 2022. With particular thanks to Linda and her family of helpers, Ron for his special daffodils, and Jane for all her hard work. The event came to an end after the Coquetdale Chamber Choir fundraiser concert on Sunday. £470 was kindly donated by those who attended the concert - this money will go directly to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal. Here are some photos for you to enjoy.
